Sea Of Thieves' Pirates Of The Caribbean Crossover Gets New Gameplay Trailer

And they created a whole separate Arena mode so people who wanted to PvP could still have their fun and not bother those of us who just wanted to enjoy the game with friends. But after a while you realize that you're just doing the same things, there isn't much meat in the game and while it has some story quests it's mostly about sailing around finding chests with gold to buy uninteresting cosmetics. In this gameplay screenshot, the player is firing cannonballs at a hostile pirate ship, which is controlled by another group of players. Packed to the seams with sailing and exploring, fighting and plundering, riddle solving and treasure hunting, Sea of Thieves has everything you need to live the pirate life you’ve always dreamed about. The game is fairly forgiving with Player or Ship death, making sure that the players do not lose anything significant that would help them return to the Seas immediately. Instead the Player Crews only chance to lose all the Treasure and Resources that have been gathered during a single Sailing session.

Most obviously, it means that the iconic Disney pirate Jack Sparrow is making his way to the Sea of Thieves world. The most famous pirate from the Disney universe finally is going to be part of Rare’s pirate game, which is absolutely fitting. This game ACTIVELY punishes you for playing smart. The combat is a joke, the difficulty is all over the place and is just "give enemy absurd health".

Gold is good but the real reward for playing is the big pirate-themed sandbox that Sea of Thieves plunges you into. It's fantasy wish fulfillment for people who want to live a pirate's life. Rare could've done much worse for a first-ever crossover than one of Disney's biggest live-action movie franchises.

Sea of Thieves saw frequent collaborations with other Microsoft franchises. The Bird and Bear Figurehead, based on Rare's own Banjo-Kazooie series, was released in July 2018. Veritasdh Ships based on the Halo series and the Gears of War franchise were released in June and November 2019 respectively, as well as a ship set based on Ori and the Will of the Wisps released in March 2020. "Each time you're introduced to completely new locations within those regions." This can include familiar sites like Dead Man's Grotto or new ones like Sailor's Grave, a "shipwreck town" that's built for players to explore. In A Pirate's Life, the Sea also serves as a conduit between the Sea of Thieves world with Jack's Caribbean, connected by tunnels that are reminiscent of the Disney ride. There's also the Sunken Kingdom, an ocean floor location that includes, among other things, the wreckage of the Black Pearl. Mixed into all of that are the trappings of a pirate's life. A tankard for grog-drinking and a musical instrument for plinking out oceangoing tunes are permanent fixtures in your inventory. Accessorizing your look with pets, eye patches, tricorner hats, and other gear is the reward for amassing a pile of earned or stolen booty.

A Pirate's Life is the biggest addition to date for Sea of Thieves, in addition to being the game's very first crossover. The fact that it's also a partnership with Disney on one of the world's most well-known pirate-themed franchises is no small thing either.

Mermaid statues encrusted with gemstones appear on shore. Sunken ships that may hold pirate treasure lilt in the open sea. All of these are threats and opportunities that radically change how you chart your course, but nothing is as volatile and exciting as…the other pirates. Make or break your pirates’ code on a vast, shared sea.
